"The Dawn" and its companion piece, "The Dusk", were modeled after two close friends of mine. These portraits consider the quietness of hope and beauty we carry.

lamination
I was focused on the realization of the individual, and compositions of fragmented busts that have been excavated from history. The lamination process became an opportunity to explore a more open, cavernous feeling.

In this work, the process of chainsaw was predominately about removing excess material to arrive at the silhouette.

"The Dawn" provided an opportunity to explore how the realization of a portrait could communicate more deeply about an individual.
